Erebor (The Lonely Mountain)
By Onyx.
This will be more of a pictorial of the Dwarven hold rather than a step by step guide. I built this board a few years ago and I can’t quite remember all the details.
Inspiration for the board (various images I found on the net).
All the materials/tools used for this project.
Playing with the initial design (Hirst Arts Blocks are really useful for this).
The Dwarf Statues and pillars were bought from Thomarillion (sadly no longer available anymore).
Starting to form the mountainside.
The pillars from Thomarillion (before and after I weathered them).
Next was forming the spurs of the mountain.
Here how I use Polyfilla (Spackle) to detail the cliffs.
The Polyfilla helps to hide the polystyrene and gives a more realistic look.
Note the broken bridge and the old Guard room as mentioned in The Hobbit.
I used tree bark to form the banks of the River Running.
I poured PVA glue all over the flat surfaces and used various grades of sand/talus to cover the polystyrene.
Once dry, it was on to painting.
I made the river using 2 part resin.
I used Woodland Scenics Water Effects to form the ripples in the water.
I added burnt tree stumps (Smaug used to burn the valley every now and then) and a few different types of flock/static grass.
Photos of the finished Dwarven Fortress.
Here is the board showing a few different set-ups.
